Position Overview: The High School Debate Coach is responsible for developing students’ skills in argumentation, research, critical thinking, public speaking, and respectful discourse. The coach will guide students through the preparation and execution of debate cases, support their growth as individual debaters, and prepare the team for local, regional, and/or international competitions.The focus will be on Public Forum and Impromptu formats. Key Responsibilities: - Weekly Practices: Plan and lead regular debate practices that develop students’ skills in argumentation, rebuttal, cross-examination, public speaking, and strategic thinking. - Case-Building Workshops: Facilitate workshops to help students develop strong cases, formulate arguments, anticipate opposing positions, and refine their presentations. - Research and Evidence Support: Guide students in conducting credible research, evaluating sources, developing evidence-based arguments, and properly incorporating evidence into debate cases. - Tournament Preparation: Prepare students for competitions through practice debates, mock tournaments, case refinement, strategy development, and review of debate formats and expectations. - Student Mentorship: Provide individualized coaching and mentorship to help students develop confidence, independence, resilience, and effective communication skills. - Competition Support: Accompany and supervise students at debate tournaments and provide coaching and feedback before, during, and after competitions. - Progress Monitoring: Provide students with regular, constructive feedback and help them set goals for continued growth as debaters. Time Commitment: - 3 hours per week on campus - Weekend tournaments in Dominican Republic; possible international tournaments - Will include travel in Dominican Republic and possibly international travel

Requisitos

Qualifications - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (spanish preferred but not required). - Experience in competitive debate, debate coaching, public speaking, or a related field. - Strong knowledge of debate structures, argumentation, research, and evidence-based reasoning. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students and support a range of experience levels. - Strong organizational skills and the ability to prepare students for competition deadlines and tournament schedules. - Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and intellectually challenging learning environment. Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience coaching high school debate. - Competitive debate experience at the high school or collegiate level. - Experience with the debate format(s) used by the school or relevant competition circuits, particularly Public - - Forum and Impromptu formats.. - Experience supporting students in research, writing, and public speaking.
